The Hurun China 500 2021, an annual list of China’s top 500 non-state-owned enterprises, was released on Jan 19 by renowned hurun Research Institute. The list ranks the companies by market capitalization or valuation.In the chemical industry, a total of 38 companies were listed, with chemical giants Hengli Group, Hesheng Silicon Industry and Rongsheng Holding topping the list.According to the hurun China top 500 2021, Tencent (Tencent Holdings 00700.HK) lost 1 trillion yuan in value in a year, but remained the most valuable non-state-owned enterprise in China with 3.9 trillion yuan.TSMC ranked second with a value of 3.7 trillion yuan;Alibaba group Holding LTD (09988.SH) lost half its value to 2.5 trillion yuan, dropping one place to third place.Bytedance’s value tripled to 2.3 trillion yuan, up five places to fourth place.Ningde Times entered the top 10 for the first time, rising six places to fifth, with its value rising 2.5 times to 1.5 trillion yuan.The top 10 companies are Tencent, TSMC, Alibaba, Bytedance, Ningde Times, Meituan, Huawei, Ant Group, JD.com and Ping An Of China.Chemicals rose to third place by sector from sixth last year.The threshold for China’s top 500 in the comprehensive Ranking of New Energy and Chemical Materials was raised by 9 billion yuan (39%) to 32 billion yuan, a record high.Thirty-four companies have more than doubled in value and three have seen their value rise by hundreds of billions of dollars, led by Bytedance, followed by Ningde Times and Meituan.In terms of industry distribution, the energy sector rose rapidly to become the second largest sector in the Fortune 500 by number of companies, while the chemical industry also rose from sixth to third.If the new energy and chemical materials are integrated, the top 10 are: Taiwan JIC Manufacturing, Ningde Times, Longji, Mediatek technology, Yiwei Lithium energy, Tongwei Group, Weil, Ganfeng Lithium, Formosa Petrochemical, Hengli Petrochemical.In terms of cities, Shanghai overtook Beijing to become the city with the largest number of Fortune 500 companies, with 69, followed by Beijing with 68 and Shenzhen with 45.By region, Guangdong ranked first with 87.With the addition of companies from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan this year, the number of companies from other provinces on the list has mostly declined.Taiwan, Hong Kong and Qinghai have entered the top 500 for the first time.Guangxi, Hainan, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Xizang and Macao had no companies in the top 500.Source of the Top 100 list: Petroleum and chemical parks
